Medications and Supplements
Medication on an empty stomach can be harsh on an elderly dog. Kiara eats baby food before her morning meds. There are little jars of Beechnut and Gerber that she loves. Sometimes, I mix turkey with corn and sweet potato to give her some extra nutrition and calories.
Medications
Metacam - This is an anti-inflammatory. About an hour after Kiara takes this, she is ready to run around. She takes it every morning. Mirtazapine - Kiara has only begun taking this recently. It is an appetite stimulant. She takes it a couple of times a week. Tramadol - This is a pain reliever that I keep on hand. For bladder infections, Kiara takes whatever is recommended after the Urine Culture. She tends to do well with Amoxycillan, which is much less expensive than Clavamox. I believe Clavamox irritates her stomach, as does Zenequin. |
Supplements
At the moment, Kiara is being picky about supplements. In the past she has taken Glucosemene for joints and Cranmate to prevent infections. I'm not sure how effective either of these are. There is no harm. Melatonin has been an effective sleep aid.
