In 2008, I adopted Kiara. She quickly became my best friend.
Kiara had a difficult early life. She had been living with 29 other dogs in a New York City apartment when the ASPCA rescued her. At the time of her adoption she was scared of the world. She was fearful of men, of knives, of groups of dogs, but she has come so far and we continue to have a wonderful life together. She brings me happiness and joy every single day and I try to do the same for her. She's an old girl now, probably sixteen, and has slowed down but with a lot of love and care, she continues to smile.
I decided to create this page to serve as a resource for elderly dogs and the people that love them. Please browse these pages for information on how to help your geriatric dog overcome illness and other difficulties that they may experience with age. While I haven't posted hospice resources on this site (that's for another time), there are simple things like putting rubber mats on your floor, and giving your dog baby food when they take medication, that can help enhance the quality of their lives as they age.
